December 2014 Holiday Luncheon
The December 3 annual Holiday Luncheon at Peace United Church of Christ was very well attended. Close to 80 retirees and guests enjoyed music by Fiat Musica, a holiday message from the Chancellor, and delicious and savory treats.
Fiat Musica sang a variety of pieces from around the world celebrating the season of light in different countries and ended with a traditional Christmas carol. Their harmonious music filled the hall with beautiful sounds and set the scene for the gathering.
The Chancellor arrived describing himself as a bit frazzled, having spent the morning volunteering at the food bank in Watsonville. He wished us all a joyous holiday season and thanked us for our continued work on behalf of the campus and each other. He also talked about this being UCSC's 50th anniversary year and acknowledged that some of us have been around since the beginning. He mused about what he was going to wear for the campus' Dress Like 1965 Day. Retiree Mary Joan Rodriguez (in the audience) whispered to another retiree that he always wore hiking shorts.
The room was filled with warmth and good cheer, friends reconnecting, and delicious food. A most fitting way to begin the holiday season!
