The UC Santa Cruz Retirees and Emeriti Associations invite you to attend the Fall 2016 CUCRA-CUCEA Meetings at the Scotts Valley Hilton Hotel. We also hope you will join us on the campus for a tour of the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems and a farm to table dinner at the newly reconstructed Hay Barn. The dinner speaker will be Distinguished University Professor David Haussler, Director of the Genomics Institute.

1:00 - 4:00 pm CUCRA-CUCEA Joint meeting

4:30 Shuttle to UCSC Campus for tour and dinner

5:00 Tour of the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems

6:00 Farm to Table Dinner at UCSC’s Hay Barn including a presentation by Distinguished University Professor –

David Haussler on the “Human Genome Project”.


Note: The tour and dinner/lecture are a package.  The shuttle will not return to the hotel between the tour and the dinner.

Thursday October 27

9:00 - 12:00 CUCRA and CUCEA separate meetings at Scotts Valley Hilton

All meeting sessions, accommodations, and meals, apart from the Hay Barn dinner, will be at the Scotts Valley Hilton, 6001 La Madrona Drive, Scotts Valley.
The tours of the Center for Agroecology and the dinner at the Hay Barn are at the UCSC Campus, about 10 miles from the hotel. Shuttle service between the hotel and the campus will be provided.  The tour of the Center for Agroecology will involve some up hill walking and standing for approximately one hour.


A special $179 room rate plus tax and fees has been arranged at the Scotts Valley Hilton for rooms with either one king bed or two queen beds.  Suites are also available.  These discounted rates are available two days before and two days after for extended stays.  Call no later than Monday October 3, to make your personal reservation. You are responsible for arranging your own transportation to Scotts Valley, which is about 5 miles north of Santa Cruz, off of Highway 17.

Airport. The nearest airport is Norman Mineta International Airport in San Jose (SJC). Southwest Airlines offers the most frequent service.  Allow 40-50 minutes travel time between the airport and Santa Cruz via Highway 17.

Airport Shuttles. The Hilton does not provide shuttle service from the airport. Among the several shuttle providers are the Early Bird Airport Shuttle at (831) 462-3933 and Echo’s Airport Express at (831) 818-2034.

Carpooling. If you are interested in sharing a rental car with attendees from either your own or other UC locations, make those arrangements on your own by calling or contacting colleagues.

Hotel parking There is no charge for parking at the Scotts Valley Hilton.

Campus parking. Driving personal cars on campus is discouraged.  If you choose to drive to the campus, you must be at the parking kiosk at the main campus entrance at Bay and High Streets no later than 5:00 pm to obtain a permit.  The permit is free if you have a valid A permit with you from another UC location. Maps and directions are available at the kiosk or online at the UCSC campus maps: Parking Lot 170 is the closest to the Hay Barn.
