The Retirees Association holds at least four social events each year, along with seminars, tours and other opportunities for retirees. Upcoming events are listed below. Links to descriptions of past events are listed on the left side of this page.
UPCOMING 2015 EVENTS:
May 5, 2015 from 11:30am - 1:30pm at Peace United Church of Christ (900 High Street, Santa Cruz). Guest speaker John Dizikes will talk about the early days at UCSC and UCSC's 50th anniversary. Bring a potluck dish to share: an entree, side, salad or dessert, and we'll provide the drinks. Also bring your own plate, cup and utensils to minimize waste. Park in the upper church lot.
NEW RETIREE RECEPTION
June 18, 2015: 4:00 - 5:30pm. Second annual Welcome to Retirement reception at the Cowell Provost House. A special event to honor new retirees. In addition to new retirees, all Retiree Association and Emeriti members are invited to attend and share in the celebration. The Chancellor will present retirement certificates to the new retirees. A wonderful opportunity to see old friends and welcome new retirees to our group. If you plan to attend, let us know.
September 26-27, 2015. Plans are beginning to materialize for this celebration of the campus' opening 50 years ago. We are in the planning stages for a brunch for all former faculty and staff, Sunday, September 27. We're also hoping to have campus tours for those of us who haven't been on campus in a long time.
Help us to identify and locate faculty and staff who were employed in the years 1964-1967. Please send their names and current email or mailing adress to Nancy Pascal (email@example.com) or Jerry Walters (firstname.lastname@example.org) as soon as you can. Contact your friends from campus and help make this a special reunion for all.
Promoting the Retirees Association on Campus
The Association’s board is taking steps to promote our programs and activities among current campus staff and faculty. A liaison relationship has been established with the Staff Advisory Board, which represents all career staff employees.
Issues arise from time to time that have implications for both active employees and retirees, and this formalized connection will provide a means for both organizations to coordinate their responses to such matters as changes in health care benefits.
In November, the Retirees and Emeriti Associations co-coordinate a special open enrollment forum with the Health Care Facilitator designed to answer questions specific to retirees' health care options and concerns. In addition, in March a panel of retirees participated in a pre-retirement workshop sponsored by the Benefits Office. This is an important outreach effort that helps current employees plan for and realize their dreams for retirement.
